The 1 philosophy I use for absolutely everything
Give what you really have. Give them what they really need. Give it now.
That’s it. That’s the philosophy. I call it abundance, but the word has been hijacked. It doesn't mean "think positive and money will come."
It’s not vision boards. It’s not manifesting. It’s not the hustle-bro “abundance mindset” that says you just need to want it more. And it’s not about having excess.
Abundance is knowing what you have to offer, and feeling that you’re good enough to give it. It is disciplined and authentic giving. Abundance often looks like:
Giving without keeping score
Being able to wait, because you trust more is coming
Staying open when a plan falls through, because it's not your only shot
Where we often get stuck, however, is scarcity.
Scarcity is feeling there’s not enough, or you’re not enough. Scarcity often looks like:
Overgiving or not having boundaries
Grabbing what's in front of you now, afraid it won't come again
Keeping a mental ledger of who owes you
One caveat: abundance won’t fix a real shortage. If there genuinely isn’t enough money, time or know-how, you need better structure, not a better mindset. Most of the time, you need both.
Naturally, abundance can take time to make into a habit, and equally, to see results — the same as going to the gym takes time to make into a habit and see physical results. Therefore, patience is a prerequisite for both.
Gratitude is immediate abundance.
3 Principles
Give what you really have: naturally you can only give what you actually have. This requires honesty and telling people when you don’t have what they need.
Give them what they really need, not more and not just what you want to give: this requires knowledge of their needs and wants (i.e. their problem and their presenting problem). Beware of scarcity in the form of over-giving, under-giving or mis-giving.
Give it now, not just when everything feels perfect: give when it’s needed, not just when it’s convenient.
What are the next steps
Exercise 1: Gratitude is immediate abundance because it reminds you of how much you have. Meditate or journal about gratitude daily. Set a reminder in your phone. Aim for at least 3 new items each day.
Exercise 2: Pick one person, identify what they really need and give it to them this week. (e.g. call a friend or family member and give them your attention or support).
Exercise 3: Pick one area of your life — career, a relationship, friendships — and run this for 3 months. Give authentically to the right people. The right ones give back over time, even if not straight away. The wrong ones only ever take, and you'll notice you feel drained rather than energised after giving to them.
I put a lot of thought into this so I’d love to hear your thoughts or feedback. Drop me a line at info@ronankennedy.ie — one-liners are fine!
